About the Event

Remote Learning and Beyond…Resources for the Choral and Music Classrooms

In a world where we have been living in a Covid-compliant routine for a full year, how can we  examine and refresh our practices as we continue teaching virtually and phase back into the in person experience? In this workshop, we will explore the ever-evolving virtual world of teaching  and its transition back into the classroom, and discuss the practices we want to hold onto in a  post-Covid world.

Sophia Papoulis is the Associate Conductor of the award-winning Young People's Chorus of New  York City. At YPC, an organization renowned for its diversity and artistic excellence, she directs  children ranging in age from 8 to 18, in rehearsals, performances, and tours in the U.S. and abroad.  Each year 2,000 children benefit musically, academically, and socially through their participation in  YPC’s after-school and in-school programs.

Since joining YPC in 2007, Sophia has conducted YPC choristers at a number of NYC’s most  notable venues, from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to the 92nd Street Y, Merkin Concert Hall at  Kaufman Center, and Symphony Space. She has prepared and conducted YPC choruses for national  and international radio and television appearances, recording sessions, collaborative performances  with such artists as the New York Pops, Meredith Monk, the Kronos Quartet and the Stephen  Petronio Company, and for performances not only in New York City, but also in major venues  throughout North America, Asia, Europe, and South America.

A sought-after choral clinician, Sophia is invited by choral organizations around the country to  appear as a guest conductor, presenting choral and music education workshops, and conducting All State Honor Choirs.  Sophia is a graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music, where she studied  Music Education and Conducting under the mentorship of Dr. Janet Galván.
